A recent ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) survey asked mothers, if cost were not an issue, would you consider a “mommy makeover?” Just in time for Mother’s Day, it seems moms would prefer to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back over flowers and candy.

In major cities all over the US, plastic surgery procedures are on the rise. In Boston plastic surgery for mothers is extremely popular, and includes procedures such as tummy tuck, breast lift and/or augmentation, thigh lift, arm tuck, butt lift, etc. According to ASPS women had nearly 112,000 tummy tucks in 2010, up 85 percent since 2000; 90,000 breast lifts, up 70 percent since 2000; and 296,000 breast augmentations, up 39 percent since 2000.

With these trends it in mind it is easy to recognize that in the last few years women’s attitudes about cosmetic surgery have changed. Perhaps with celebrities at the forefront of turning back the clock with cosmetic enhancements, women have much to compete with. Today’s mom can admit, they love their children, but hate the toll that pregnancy has taken on their bodies. With plastic surgery, they can get their bodies back, which is necessary when diet and exercise do not do the trick.

Another trend that ASPS Member Surgeons are noticing is that the type of patient seeking “mommy makeover” plastic surgery is younger than a decade ago. Today young mothers in their 30s have been coming in to Boston plastic surgeons to seek tummy tucks and breast lifts vs. mothers in their 50s in the years previously. It seems they do not want to wait that long to let age take its toll. They want their pre-baby bodies back immediately.

In addition to plastic surgery becoming more openly accepted, the technology has also improved. Techniques in plastic cosmetic surgery have made the well-known complicated procedures safer and more effective than ever. In Boston tummy tuck, breast augmentation, & other mommy makeover procedures are extremely popular, safe, & effective. Mothers who have had mommy makeovers can not only enhance their looks, but their attitudes as well. Many patients say that when they look good, they feel good, and can even be a better mom to their kids.

If you are considering a “mommy makeover” or any other Boston cosmetic surgery procedures you should keep the following things in mind. First of all, after pregnancy, your body will undergo many changes on its own. You should wait at least 6 months to a year after having your last child to undergo a mommy makeover. You should also be sure to discuss your post-baby body goals with your surgeon in detail, because he or she will be able to recommend the best plan. Also if you want the best results, you should try diet and exercise first. Losing weight before your procedure can optimize the final outcome. And lastly, but most importantly, when searching for a qualified surgeon make sure that he or she is board certified, and ask to take a look at their most recent before and after photos.
